Mona needs a Creative

The Museum of Old & New Art (Mona) is on the lookout for an advertising creative to join our in-house Comms team. Fact.

The sell

It’ll be fun. Museum owner David Walsh only likes ideas he wouldn’t have thought of. In fact, he mistakenly said this once, and we’ve been running with it ever since: “Upset people if you can, fail if you must, just don’t let us drift to the f*cking middle.”

Where is it based?

The job is based in Tassie, which is awesome if you like Tassie. Stop reading if you’re not into Tassie.

What will you be working on?

Well, there’s the museum and all its nonsense, so you’ll be working on that. But Mona is actually about 40 creatively motivated brands, including two wineries (Moorilla, Domaine A), Tassie’s biggest craft brewery (Moo Brew), a music and art festival (Mona Foma), a bunch of luxury accommodation, a chef’s hatted restaurant (The Source), the world’s weirdest restaurant (Faro), about nine bars, a couple of giant camouflaged ferries with fibreglass animals for seats, as well as a gift shop that we get to invent the products for (dildos are on the way – Mona Bonas). We also have a gin (Rock Bottom Gin), our own packaged cocktail brand (Unholy Water), there’s a record label in New Orleans, a bus that we’ve turned into a hacking school for underprivileged kids, and a heap of standalone gigs and art exhibitions. You’ll get to do ideas for all those. Plus we’re hoping to build a $450million six star hotel (Hotel Mona), the Burning Man of caravan parks (HOBO), and the fanciest health spa in the southern hemisphere (SPAM) that may or may not involve being spat on. You will not be bored.

Experience and Skills

You’ll need to have a bunch of experience as a creative (at least three years at an agency). And a bunch of skills. In fact the more skills you have the more ideas we’ll be able to make. Ideally you’ll have boss design skills, digi skills, a bunch of web experience, and you’ll need to be ace at copywriting. So, a one-person agency basically.

And you'll need a decent sense of humour. Mostly to use as a coping mechanism.
