Here's the inside scoop: Weta Workshop is looking for its correspondent. Part investigative journalist, part storyteller, part new media maestro, it's the job of Weta Workshop's Communications Specialist to find the stories that matter, and get them out there. Whether it's press releases, articles, social posts or videos, you'll be a master of tone who can turn a phrase to capture the attention of fans, the filmmaking industry and the Weta Workshop crew. Over the course of any given day you'll:

  • Prepare original copy and scripts that tell Weta Workshop's stories
  • Get those stories out there via social media, blogs, newsletters and media properties (following an established communications strategy)
  • Manage regular blogs and social sites across all departments and IPs, acting as Lead Producer on communications related projects and stories
  • Know and grow the fan base for existing and emerging IPs
  • Field customer enquiries including all media, tourism, advice, product, show, newsletter and fan questions and comments

We're looking for:

  • Experience working with communications, marketing or media teams crafting copy and developing on-message written and video content
  • An accomplished writer of corporate and/or entertainment communications
  • A tertiary qualification and/or industry-recognised qualification in corporate communications or marketing
  • Experience publishing ongoing content across multiple media channels
  • Proven success identifying interesting and relevant stories
  • Professional and, preferably, award-winning examples of written and video content
  • Experience working with digital channels including blogs and social sites, and an interest in and natural curiosity for emerging communication channels and innovations
  • Experience working with and directing image and video based editorial content
  • An aptitude for researching and telling stories that fire the imagination

Technically, you'll have:

  • Computer literacy with Adobe Creative Suite; Microsoft Office Suite; basic web editing programmes; social networking sites, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr and YouTube); FTP upload and transfer programmes; and audio, visual and video file formats
  • Rudimentary understanding and appreciation of html markup and tags as well as CSS in a content editor environment or content management system
  • The ability to quickly learn and adapt to emerging communications technologies and platforms including raw media, live streaming services and augmented and virtual reality

You'll also have:

  • Confidence to effectively communicate with Weta Workshop's wide range of customers, fans, team members and suppliers
  • Confidence behind and in front of the camera
  • A proactive, creative, friendly, fun, inclusive personality
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • The ability to adapt written and spoken tone to fit various customer groups or projects
  • The ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality when required
